Events to look out for in Cornwall in June

Were now coming to the end of spring and into the glorious summer months here in Cornwall, and that means a host of fantastic events close to our holiday cottages in Cornwall.

Whether you’re a couple on a romantic getaway or on your annual family holidays there is something for everyone from musical events to adrenalin packed water-sport competitions.

Charles Causley Festival, 3rd – 5th June, Bodmin Moor and Tamar Valley.

Celebrates the life and work of Launceston’s most prized writer Charles Causley, this event promotes the best of literature and arts from across the region hosting a varied programme of activities and events. There are guided town walks, poetry tents, readings, book signings, music and work-shops appealing to all ages and all tastes. Most events are held within the town centre and are an easy walk between venues.

 

Rippon IFA World Tour, 3rd – 5th June, Fistral, Newquay.

This is the 4th stop in the IWFA World Tour where jet-skiers from all over the globe will show off their bag of tricks in the Cornish waves.  Enjoy aerial stunts from some of the best jet-skiers from the UK and across the world during this three day event, with this great family day out free to enjoy.

 

Saltash Regatta and Waterside Festival, 11th – 12th June, Saltash.

Saltash Regatta is one of the most colourful and popular waterside festivals in Cornwall, you can enjoy the traditional gig rowing championships, fun rowing events and a wide range of entertainment. You can enjoy a host of live bands, street markets, food and craft stalls as well as the new inclusion of a ‘Childrens World’ for the little ones.

 

Royal Cornwall Show, 9th – 11th June, Wadebridge.

Arguably Cornwall’s biggest event the Royal Cornwall Show attracts over 120,000 people over the course of the event that celebrates all things Cornish, from agriculture, food, trade, tourism and much more.

This event has been the highlight on the Cornwall social calendar since it was first held back in 1793 and as you’d expect from a county show, a fascinating glimpse into rural country life in the county. Alongside the popular livestock judging, there is the famous flower tent decked out with wonderful displays from individuals and local nurseries, which gets better every year. The main area offers a full three days of entertainment and activities featuring different headline acts each year.

 

Polperro Music Festival, 18th – 26th June, Polperro.

For a true Cornish experience head here, Revived back in 1996, Polperro Festival is based on a much older tradition dating back centuries which celebrates the coming of summer and was born from a mixture of known old traditions. This one-of-a-kind free festival stretches throughout the week and includes live music, an arts and crafts fair, a comedy night, the lighting of the solstice bonfire, the colourful village carnival and a unique mock mayor choosing ceremony with the winner being wheeled through the town, stopping at each inn for a “refreshment” before finally being thrown in the sea!
