It might be cold, grey and a little stormy in Cornwall now, but if you are already planning a spectacular summer holiday with the family, then we have some events to consider working into your diary. Cornwall is well known to have many fantastic events happen throughout the summer months, from family friendly music festivals to the seductive Masked Ball. Check out what’s on, book some tickets and get ready for a summer of fun on your summer breaks in Cornwall.
The Summer Masked Ball in Cornwall is an event which launches the start of the county’s festival season, and this year heads underground with a theme of Voyage Through the Underworld. Starting on the Friday with a grand feast, the event runs until Sunday and takes place at Beacon Crag, Porthleven.
The Eden Sessions always brings some big names to Cornwall in the summer, and this year is no different with Madness on 16 June, Royal Blood on 22 June and Bryan Adams on 6 July. With previous headliners including Tom Jones and Lionel Richie, there is no doubt this year is going to be fantastic – and more names are expected to be announced.
This will only be the third year of the Perranporth beach festival, and it has already attracted some big names like Status Quo and Dizzee Rascal. Though headliners are yet to be announced, some of the big names already include Example, Billy Ocean, KT Tunstall, John Newman and The Levellers. Under 18’s are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.
This big summer party on the banks of the River Camel near Wadebridge is full of delicious food, non-stop entertainment, including fantastic stuff for the kids. Day tickets are available, and some of the bands already announced to appear include Land of the Giants, Backbeat SoundSystem and the Electric Swing Circus.
This festival at Mount Pleasant Eco Park near Porthtowan celebrates diversity and the rich cultures of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Bands announced for Tropical Pressure include Hollie Cook, King Nommo, United Vibrations and The Fontanas. There is a designated kids zone, a great place to introduce kids to the festival atmosphere, and provides a fun and educational way for them to learn about the cultures represented at the festival.
Newquay’s private beach, Lusty Glaze will be the place to be on the evening of 20 July. The beach is quickly becoming a popular location for intimate music gigs, and it was announced Razorlight will perform an exclusive Sundowner Session on 20 July. The growing reputation of Lusty Glaze being a fantastic live music venue has previously brought artists like Guy Garvey and Newton Faulkner to Newquay.
Having a festival on the beach, next door to the UK’s only bar actually on the sand is something different and has drawn huge crowds in the past, as well as some top bands like Scouting for Girls and The Darkness. Punk band The Stranglers have been announced for 2017, with many more acts being revealed soon.
Cornwall’s most artistic festival, Port Eliot Festival is also becoming one of the most popular. A mixture of familiar and new artists will be performing, there are outdoor activities such as canoeing, yoga or swimming, a wonderful range of food and drink available throughout the day and some great activities for the kids too.
There have already been a few announcements for Cornwall’s biggest music festival such as Jamiroquai, Alt-J, Jake Bugg, DJ Roger Sanchez and more acts will be announced towards the end of the month. Last year the surf and music saw over 150,000 festival goers at Newquay and this year looks to be bigger and better. All ages are welcome at Boardmasters but must be accompanied by an adult.
Glamping, silent discos, hot tubs, cider walks, circus workshops, music and more is what is included at Little Orchard Cyder and Music Festival, located at Healey’s Cyder Farm. Music acts are yet to be announced, but this is a festival to be excited for, knowing how excellent previous years have been. Under 14’s are free when accompanied by an adult – no more than 2 children per adult, and day tickets are available.
