Discover the best places to propose in Cornwall

February 22nd, 2017

If you’re deciding on breaks in Cornwall for a romantic holiday this year, and want to propose to your partner, it’s all a question of deciding where would be the most romantic and idyllic location for you both; from beautiful beaches, secluded coves to watch the sun set, stargazing hotspots, grand attractions and exotic gardens, Cornwall will leave you spoilt for choice. Here are our favourite spots that would make an excellent spot to pop the question:

Eden project

The Eden project, located at Par, is just a 40-minute drive from Truro and houses some of the best gardens in the whole of the UK! The two biomes are home to exotic rainforests, with a metal aerial balcony that overlooks the whole forest. If you’re unable to get to the rainforest in exotic locations, then how about this one in Cornwall? Additionally, head over to the other biome to relax in a Mediterranean inspired garden and get down on one knee under a flowery veranda.

With many quiet corners for privacy, this can be an ideal location to ask for their hand in marriage, just be sure to go out of school breaks to have the gardens all to yourselves!

Beaches

Cornwall is home to many Blue Flag beaches, with one just on the doorstep of our luxury Falmouth resort. Gylly Beach can be the perfect location to ask the important question, with soft, golden sands, crystal waters and a luxury cafe to get a celebratory drink and delicious breakfast afterwards! If you want to add a little more romance we suggest going early in the morning to enjoy a magnificent sunrise. (Due to the location of the beach, you won’t experience great sunsets here, so bare in this in mind to avoid disappointment!).

Other beaches worth researching include Perranporth Beach. This beach sits underneath dramatic cliffsides. Rope a friend into helping you write the special question into the hard sand, whilst you suggest a walk along the cliffs to enjoy the spectacular coastal views. For this idea to work you will need to make sure you are aware of the tide times to avoid your heart-felt question being washed away with the tide.

Minack Theatre

Sat above the crystal blue waters at Porthcurno beach is a open air theatre carved into the cliffs. With stunning panoramic views across the coast, this iconic attraction can be a truly romantic setting to ask your partner to marry you. Just bare in mind that during peak season the theatre can be busy, especially just before and during show times.

Along the Helford River

The Helford River flows through many towns and villages located in western Cornwall. To travel across the river you can hire small motorised boats. On a beautiful summer’s day, pack a champagne picnic and head off on a romantic day exploring the secluded coves and places around the Helford. This activity will allow you to find a secret cove, where you and your partner can enjoy some privacy while you create a lasting memory.

Coves

If the sound of coves appeals to you, why not head to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world? Kynance Cove has an array of coves to explore and cliffs where you can enjoy a spectacular sun-set.

Castles

Cornwall has a rich history that attracts many tourists. If you’re looking for an epic proposal than look no further than the castles in Cornwall.

Top choices include St. Michael’s Mount, located at Marazion, just a 40-minute drive from Truro. Twinned with the Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France (one of the most romantic locations on Earth) this idyllic location is something from a fairy-tale, and the perfect backdrop to make your princess a queen!

St Mawes Castle is also a great castle setting to ask the magic question, with towers, turrets, beautiful gardens, spiral staircases and views that look over Falmouth Bay. This castle is a lot quieter than the historical attraction of Pendennis, but still sports those spectacular views over the bay. (You could even return and get married at this castle!).

Exotic gardens

With an array of exotic gardens, you are spoilt for choice if your partners idea of a dream proposal is out in natures playground. The Lost Gardens of Heligan is a great option, these mysterious gardens exude romance. From their discovery in 1990, after being lost under brambles and ivy after the First World War, these beautifully restored gardens will make you feel lost in time.

Other great options include Trebah Gardens, just outside of Falmouth, that have an array of exotic plants and a little hidden cove.

For grander garden proposals, head to Trelissick Gardens, with a big estate home and many beautiful gardens that surround it. These gardens overlook Falmouth Bay, with many private corners and spots for you to make the best proposal.

Stargazing spots

Stargazing can be one of the most romantic activities to do with your partner, especially if you are both night owls! Head to Trelissick Gardens to spot the constellations. Your ring will twinkle just as bright as the stars in this dreamy proposal, but not as much as the sparkle in your partners eyes!

However you choose to propose in Cornwall, everyone at The Valley wishes you the best of luck!
