The Tempest at the Minack Theatre

The spectacular Minack Theatre hosts Moving Stories Theatre Company at the start of July, when the company will put on its production of The Tempest by William.

The play is perhaps the most perfect for the Minack, as it’s set amidst storms which batter the rocky, “rich and strange” Prospero’s island.

The play was the first ever to be shown at the Minack in 1932, shortly after Rowena Cade finished hewing it from the rock.

The tale of revenge and forgiveness sees Prospero, Duke of Milan, exiled by his own brother Antonio to a remote and enchanted island, along with his young daughter Miranda. Many years later, Prospero puts his magical talents to use in raising a storm and wrecking his brother’s ship to bring him back for his reckoning.
