Unofficial event in Cornwall to welcome Olympic torch

Towns in Cornwall are organising a massive event to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Torch to the county, despite being overlooked on the torche’s historic route to the capital.

The CPR Torch Festival is being held on May 18, just one day before the torch is due to arrive in Cornwall, at Heartlands and at Carn Brea Leisure Centre, encouraging locals and tourists to play their part in celebrating the official countdown to the London Games.

Festival goers can enjoy several events throughout the day and evening drawing on the cultural aspect of the Olympics.

“There is no better place in Cornwall to celebrate the arrival of the Olympics than Heartlands, which celebrates the legacy of the worldwide Cornish diaspora” MP George Eustace said.

“This initiative means that the largest population centre in Cornwall can now participate in the Olympic celebrations”.

It could be the perfect event to visit whilst relaxing in some luxury accommodation in Cornwall over the summer.
