One of Cornwall’s most vital pieces of history has received a huge boost after obtaining more than £1.5 million in grants, it has been revealed.
The Porthcurno Telegraph Museum, described by some historians as the home of the ‘Victorian internet’, has developed into one of the most popular museums in the county, offering a fascinating insight into how and why Porthcurno was the largest cable station in the world.
A £1.44 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £125, 000 from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has helped contribute to the £2.68 million development project, which hopes to offer an improved experience for all visitors and is due for completion in 2014.
Overlooking the stunning Cornish coast, the Porthcurno Telegraph museum is a must-visit for anyone enjoying luxury accommodation in Cornwall this year and represents the perfect cultural accompaniment for your relaxing British getaway.
