Olympic sailing exhibition lined up for Falmouth museum

An exhibition at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall is set to celebrate Britain’s unique Olympic and Paralympic sailing heritage when it opens next month.

Running from May 2 – June 24, the display hopes to shed light on how Britain cemented its place as the world’s most successful Olympic and Paralympic sailing nation.

The wide range of fascinating exhibits set to go on display includes anecdotes, photographs and keepsakes of those who helped make sailing the captivating sport it is today. The display will also take you on a journey from ‘yachting’s’ debut as an Olympic sport to Britain’s record-breaking haul in Beijing back in 2008, mapping out the developments of sailors themselves and how they have changed over time.

Named Our Sporting Life – Sail for Gold, it could represent a great day out for any of those planning a stay in one of the fine cottages in Cornwall this summer, a luxurious base for a relaxing British holiday.
