Champion sailor Ben Ainslee to begin UK Olympic Torch relay

Champion sailor Ben Ainslee is all set to embark on the first leg of the Olympic Torch relay across the UK later this month.

Setting off from Land’s End on 19 May, Ainslee described his delight and honour at being chosen as the UK’s first torchbearer, which is particularly poignant for the local boy who learned to sail in Cornwall.

He said: ‘I am extremely honoured to be the first torch bearer. It will be an amazing experience to be able to carry the Olympic flame in the area that I grew up in.’

The Olympics are getting tantalisingly close and the Olympic Torch was lit during a ceremony in Greece earlier today.

Passing through many Cornish towns on its route through the stunning county, there are numerous events scheduled to welcome the torch. Be sure to get the Olympic feel whilst enjoying a pre-summer sojourn in some 5 star accommodation in Cornwall, the perfect base for a relaxing break.
