CORNWALL BEACHES EARN BLUE FLAG STATUS
15 May 2012
It seems the sublime sands of Cornwall have excelled once again, with six of its stretches being awarded the coveted Blue Flag status.
Awarded annually by the campaign group Keep Britain Tidy, beaches are put through a series of stringent measures before being awarded the prizes, with parameters such as environmental management, safety, services, and more importantly water quality.
Among the beaches to retain the status were Gyllynvase and Porthtowan, both of which are in close proximity to the tourist hotspot of Falmouth. The select list also included the likes of Porthmeor, Porthminster and Polzeath, while there was also an inclusion for Cardis Bay which was stripped of its Blue Flag status last year.
The news only strengthens the county's status as one of the finest holiday destinations in the country. Why not enjoy the beautiful beaches during a stay in cottages in Cornwall?
