The International Sea Shanty Festival in Falmouth

Cornwall has a vast array of traditional festivals taking place throughout the year, and one of the most significant of which that tells us much about the region’s long maritime past is the annual International Sea Shanty Festival in Falmouth from June 15-17.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a plethora of live performances by individuals and groups from Cornwall and the South West, plus singers from across Europe and beyond. This is a great opportunity for those attending to experience the unique atmosphere and long standing spirit of Cornwall’s seafaring Celtic past and many of the songs that were heard on the tall ships.

The Sea Shanty Festival allows the local maritime storytelling heritage to come alive through these historical songs. The event is a three day festival and completely free for visitors to enjoy; it commences on the Friday evening with singing in the town’s Events Square, then moves onto the old Custom House Quay. If you come along later, you will see the celebrations continue well into the later hours at several other venues throughout the town.

So, if you are planning a holiday during this period to experience the Cornish countryside, why not stay in some beautiful 5 star accommodation in Cornwall, and enjoy some of Cornwall’s rich maritime history with a trip to the Sea Shanty Festival?
