Baby mongoose welcomed into Newquay Zoo

Newquay Zoo is a favourite attraction for visitors to Cornwall, and now there is an extra special reason to visit the zoo; a narrow-striped mongoose has given birth to a little baby.

Keepers at the zoo are ecstatic with the birth of the mongoose, the second to be born this year. They had concerns over the mongoose baby born earlier this year as the mother was not particularly interested in rearing her baby. However, she is bonding well with this newborn and the pair have been seen lying together in the sunshine.

The baby mongoose has been attracting lots of attention from zoo visitors, as is often the case with newborn animals at the zoo. The narrow-striped mongoose baby will be moved on to another zoo once it has grown up as part of a breeding programme to protect the animal, which is on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

As babies always seem to grow up surprisingly fast, those staying in self catering Cornwall cottages should head to Newquay Zoo soon to catch a glimpse of the baby mongoose and its mother.
