South West to Set to Receive Promotional Boost

Visit England recently announced that they're looking to boost the international profile of the South West.

The region is well known for being a popular British holiday destination but its international profile has been lack-lustre in recent years. Figures from 2011 show that only 729,000 overseas visitors came to the region in 2011, which is less than 10% of the overall visitor numbers for that year.

The new campaign looks to show off the area as a 'touring region', promoting the best attractions and cottages in Cornwall, with the aim of urging visitors to take a break in one of the most scenic destinations in Britain.

The national tourist body is still in the process of securing funding from Whitehall officials and it's hoped that that process will be completed in time for the summer season this year, providing a much needed boost for 2013.
