World Pasty Championship winners announced

The winners of the 2013 instalment of the World Pasty Championship have been named, with last year's victor Billy Deakin returning to the event to pick up a coveted prize once again.

From the Cornish village of Mount Hawke near Truro, Billy came back to the Eden Project once again last weekend to be named the champion of the amateur Cornish pasty category. Billy was keen to attend the awards ceremony this year, having missed last year's because he had to rush home to walk his dog. Other winners at the event included 14 year old Henry Cornish, winning the Open Savoury Junior category with his Italian inspired pizza pasty.

The Cornish pasty is a savoury snack people all over the world associate with the county, one which Cornwall was so proud of that the title was even given protected status last year. If you are lucky enough to be staying in any of the luxury cottages in Cornwall in the coming weeks, why not tuck into a delicious pasty during your stay?
