Celebrate May Day in St Ives

St Ives revived its May Day festival a few years ago, and its 2013 festival is sure to be a hit with both locals and those visiting the area. Fun and excitement for all the family will be the order of the day on 6 May and could provide a great day out for those visiting the pretty seaside town of St Ives.

The May Queen and King, along with their attending princes and princesses, will be chosen at the Guildhall at midday before the St Ives Guisers make an appearance in their traditional black and white "mock formal". A parade to the harbour will begin at 1pm where a series of festivities will be occurring, including May pole dancing, traditional Cornish dancing and music.

There will also be a fish barbecue by the harbour and a lively harbour market for those staying in luxury self catering cottages in Cornwall to pick up some lovely local produce. The road to the harbour will be closed at 1pm so it is advised that all those who want to attend arrive early.
