Celebrations lined up at Paradise Park for Archie the eagle's birthday

The Paradise Park attraction in Hayle this weekend is preparing to celebrate a very special birthday of one of its very special residents.

Archie the eagle will be 25-years-old, but this significant landmark doesn't begin to scratch the surface of a story that plays on the heart strings of animal-lovers across the world.

Hatched in a Canadian forest in 1988, he was only days old when his habitat was under siege from a huge fire. In an effort to control the blaze, firefighters felled a swathe to create a fire break, cruelly thrusting Archie from his tree-top environment.

Forest rangers fortunately came to his rescue, and he was sent to the Thompson Zoo in Manitoba, Canada, where he was hand-raised for eight months before being sent to his current residence, Paradise Park.

Regularly wowing visitors with daring and swooping displays, Archie is a favourite amongst staff at the attraction. Be sure to wish him a happy birthday should you be combining your stay in luxury self catering cottages in Cornwall with a day out at Paradise Park over the coming months.
