'Staycation' boom to generate £1 billion for Cornwall in 2013

A new study conducted by a leading holiday group has estimated that the Cornish economy will receive a welcome boost totalling £1 billion this year thanks to a sharp upturn in so-called 'staycations' – in other words, people from the UK basing their breaks at home, rather than abroad.

This Cornish Guardian article reports on a survey of 3,000 Brit holidaymakers, which confirms that the Duchy remains one of the most popular staycation destinations in the country. One Cornwall holidays industry insider described the findings as 'great news', and noted that 2013 has also seen an increasing trend of parties 'taking lots of short breaks rather than just one big holiday'.

With a wealth of luxury dog friendly cottages in Cornwall and other examples of accommodation suitable for all kinds of groups, it's no surprise that this year is expected to bring with it well over 3,000,000 visitors to this beautiful corner of the South West.
