PLANS FOR CORNISH ARCHIVE CENTRE MOVE CLOSER TO REALISATION

28 August 2013

Plans for Cornish archive centre move closer to realisation

Called Kresen Kernow, the centre will provide a permanent display of the historical and cultural heritage of the Duchy. The site in question is the former Redruth Brewery, with a brand new micro-brewery, housing and shops also to be created as part of the plans.

The current owners, Hong Kong based firm Sino Developments, recently transferred half the site over to Cornwall Council,  as well as helping with an extra £900,000 in funding. Costing as much as £15 million to realise, the local authority has committed £5 million while the project is also in line for over £9 million of Heritage Lottery Funding.

While the timescale for the project is yet to be drawn up, the proposed archive centre is sure to be a superb new attraction to be enjoyed by those staying in any Cornwall cottages in the future.
