Itís nearly time for Montol Festival!
Christmas is a busy time and there’s always something going on in Cornwall somewhere to keep everyone entertained. It goes without saying that you really don’t want to miss this event. A community festival that celebrates the midwinter solstice along with historical Cornish traditions. If you’re staying in family friendly luxury self-catering cottages in Cornwall then this event hold plenty for you.

The Montol festival last for six days from Decmeber 16- December 21, and is full of all different kinds of arts, climaxing in the main event, Montol Eve on December 21.

The week will be taken up with lantern and mask making workshops. Not only this but there will also be festive carol services, strolling bands and storytelling to listen to, as well as seasonal folk actors, known as mummers, who will be performing plays.

As the main event occurs you will get to see the people of Penzance taking part in many of the Cornish traditional customs of Christmas and Midwinter. One of these traditions is called Guise, a form of dancing involving many people donning traditional masks, wearing simulated formal costume and dressing in disguise.
