5 Festive swims in Cornwall- Do you dare?

A tradition for anybody who lives in walking/driving/cycling distance to the coast is that on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, depending on where you are, that you should brave the not so warm conditions of the sea and take a dip. There’s no restriction on who can take part, you can be local or on holiday in your 5* luxury holiday cottages, Cornwall does not discriminate on who clears the champagne hangover with this annual event!

If you were unsure of where the best places to go for a festive front-crawl are then have a look at our top 5 here.

With around 400 people venturing to Gwithian in Hayle to take the plunge, you are sure to be in for a treat if you head down and join the eager crowd here. Gwithian hosts the event on Christmas Day between 7.00am and 11.45am so why not join the crowd and head for the deep blue sea in a flurry of swimsuits and Santa hats!

Organised by The Charlestown Rowing club, this annual event which takes place on Boxing Day has been set up to incorporate raising money for a local charity. Anybody wanting to enjoy the madness needs to contact the club for a form beforehand. Contact form available through: linda.lang2@btinternet.com

Trevaunance Cove:
Attracting over 100 swimmers every year the Trevaunance Cove swim is extremely popular. This popular location sees with fellow swimmers run down to the sea, wait for a countdown and then all dive in together. Aggie beach offers you a group of keen revellers just waiting to enter the frigid waters over the Christmas period!

Watergate Bay: Right in front of Newquay’s very own Extreme Academy is your chance do something extreme yourself! There’s plenty of room here on this lengthy beach for you to make a beeline to the sub 10 degree water. As Newquay is known for being such a cool place, so what better place to dip your toe in?

Carnon Downs: All of the above sound fantastic if you can grin and bear the masses and you’re brave enough, but in the event that you’re not, then you can enjoy a warm paddle in some more selective swimming facilities. If you’re planning a visit to Cornwall then you can enjoy the exclusive heated indoor pool at The Valley when you stay in the luxury holiday cottages there. Relaxation in its finest form!
