Cornish ski slope plans for Truro

Here at The Valley we’ve been hiding out from the weather and have spent the morning in our luxury holiday cottages in Cornwall watching some of the qualifying events from the winter Olympics in Sochi.

We caught the women’s slope style snowboarding on the BBC and we’re really looking forward to catching the opening ceremony tonight.

It made us think – wouldn’t it be great if we would go snowboarding or skiing somewhere nearer to home than Russia.

We could always got to Austria, Switzerland or France but we might soon be able to get on the slopes without getting out the passport.

That’s because plans have been put forward to build a dry ski slope just a few miles away from The Valley, at the Killiow Estate near Truro.

An application was submitted to Cornwall Council a few weeks ago and we’re intrigued to see how it goes!

If the plans are approved there’ll be a main and nursery slope and a ski lift built at Killiow, along with a car park and a clubhouse.

The main slope would be 120m long if it goes ahead – which would give us plenty of ‘snow’ to practice your carving and turns!

So while you’re watching Sochi 2014 live over the next few weeks and fancy going skiing just think, you could soon be giving it a go in Cornwall.
