UNUSUAL VISITOR SPOTTED ON CORNISH BEACH

17 February 2014

Unusual visitor spotted on Cornish beach

With the lively weather we’ve been seeing around the area recently, it would appear that an unusual visitor might have been looking to stay in one of the 5 star Cornwall cottage holidays!

Chantelle Smith, 25, from Cornwall was walking along Polkerris Beach in western Cornwall, less than an hour away from Truro, when she noticed what she described as a short black and white bird. Miss Smith is certain that it was a bird that is used to colder climates and walks/swims rather than flying- a penguin.

Once Chantelle realised what she thought she was seeing she quickly got her phone out and managed a swift picture of the bird waddling along the sands in the opposite direction.

Penguins like this one thought to have been spotted are normally found 10,000 miles away in Antarctica. Take a look at the image and see what you think?
