Many families visit our 5 star cottages Cornwall with the intention of spending the week on the golf course whatever the weather. As the days are slowly becoming lighter and with spring drawing ever nearer we thought we would give you some information on five top golf courses near Truro that you can enjoy while testing your handicap at these superb locations  near our 5 star luxury cottages in Carnon Downs.


Truro Golf Club

Truro Golf Club, with its established course located within a picturesque landscape was founded in 1937. Truro’s course offers gently undulating and easy walking holes encompassed around countryside that allows for the course to provide those playing a round both a challenging test for low handicap players and enjoyable golf for other players too.

Proud green keeper and his superb team maintain the course to excellent standards, producing a combination of attractively set fairways leading to some surprising slopes on slick greens allowing for a course that will is sure to be revered.

The modern clubhouse with its comfortable bar and catering facilities offers you a welcome visit that is only a mile from Cornwall’s famous capital city.

Killiow Golf Club

Killiow Estate is firmly established having been existence for the best part of 900 years.

It was until 1998 that the estate was purchased and then renovated into the outstanding Killiow Golf Course and Driving Range. An added extra that Killiow offer is a superb 4-hole Academy Course to practice all elements of your game.

As you’d expect with a course set in grounds with such high esteem, this fantastic 18-hole parkland course presents a challenge to golfers of all standards. The serene setting allows members and visitors alike the opportunity to relax amongst the natural water features and, if you have time between shots, the local wildlife can be spotted too, including woodpeckers, jays, buzzards, swallows, dragonflies and the indigenous rabbits.

The course is made up of 3 par 5s, 4 par 3s and 11 par 4s which makes up the 6124 yards from the white tees and 5440 yards from the Ladies tees.

Perranporth Golf Club

You can find Perranporth Golf Club located on the stunning North Coast of Cornwall that provides some of the most exclusive links golf in the South West of England.

Perranporth also proudly boast that their fast and unequivocally true greens have a reputation for being amongst the best on offer in the South West. The course covers 6296 yards and allows or an exciting par 72 challenge for both high and low handicappers.

Falmouth Golf Club

In true Cornish style, Falmouth Golf Club welcomes all visitors and societies to their well-established golf course.

As you take on this par 72 course you will find it quaintly winds its way along original Cornish cliff tops that incorporate superb views out over Falmouth Bay.

The facilities at Falmouth allow for all levels of golfer to experience an enjoyable round, from beginner to lower handicap players.

There have been some interesting changes applied to the course with the fairways being cut wider, also area of rough adjacent to the fairways have been thinned out along with the abolishing of some internal out-of-bounds sections too.

Porthpean Golf Club 

Porthpean Golf Club is a nice, relaxed and informal club for all types of golfer. The front 9 of the course is set in a pleasant parkland location with some rather agreeable views of Penrice Woods along with distant views of rural Cornwall. The back 9 offers glorious panoramic views that overlook St. Austell Bay.
