When Helen Jessup came to stay- A bloggers review

Helen Jessup, owner of The Crazy Kitchen food blog has posted a recent article following her family trip to Cornwall. The vacation was a great opportunity to reminisce about the last time she was lucky enough to visit the region that sees so many succumb to its natural appeal. The first visit was some 20 years ago and since then she has only visited Cornwall once or twice and it’s been at least 8 years now since Helen has graced the land of cream teas, pasties and other such clichés from Kernow. This time round the visit involved staying right here with us at The Valley in one of our luxury cottages Cornwall.

We have taken some extracts from the two part blog article for you to see. Here’s what Helen and the rest of the Jessup family loved about their stay.

Food at The Valley

After dining in our Café Azur Helen said: “The special for the evening was 'Posh Fish & Chips' which we all opted for, as you cannot come to the seaside without having fish & chips.

First though we all shared three starters - Salt & Pepper Squid, Olives and Bread and Bread & Dips.”

She goes on to say: “Whilst I'm not a big fan of seafood I do like calamari, as long as it's a good one. I haven't eaten a good calamari since I was in Falmouth all those years ago and now, 20 years later, I wasn't disappointed this time around either. In fact it was so good that all three children tried and loved it too. All three of the starters were so good that they were devoured within minutes, mostly by the kids.

The fish & chips, arrived on a slate platter with a portion of minted mushy peas and tartar sauce on the side, and was piled high on the plate. Whilst on first appearance it didn't look like a large portion, the fish was extremely thick and extremely fresh, and the chips tasted just like home made and it more than satisfied the large appetite of a teenage boy. The child portions were also a good size, and served with little pots of peas, tartar sauce and ketchup.”

Finally it was time for the dessert which went down well, Helen added: “Dessert for the older kids was chocolate brownie and ice cream, for Jack it was chocolate ice cream with popping candy and for the husband it was Apple Crumble and clotted cream. I opted for a healthier liquid dessert of Espresso Martini!”

Finally she said: “We didn't have any complaints with the meal at all, as it was all very high quality and fresh. The service was also extremely friendly and helpful.”

Facilities at The Valley

In part 2 of the Crazy Kitchen blog Helen Jessup took a look into our facilities at The Valley.

She said: ”On site the was a good choice of facilities including swimming pools (indoor & outdoor), Jacuzzi, pool tables, table tennis, tennis & squash courts, play areas and gym. The site is secure, with a gated entry system only available to guests and 5mph restrictions in place around the roads. It is well positioned for sightseeing around Cornwall, being only a short drive from Falmouth and Truro.”

We were pleased to see that Helen added: “I would definitely recommend The Valley for a peaceful family break in Cornwall, with all the independence of a cottage holiday and the convenience of a site, with the restaurant and facilities.”

Accommodation at The Valley

It is always good to have someone with an objective view on an area we feel we do best in and that is to provide first choice accommodation that will delight all of our guests. The description of our cottage provided in the blog from the Helen Jessup is exactly what we feel people should know about us.

The experienced blogger said: “The Valley site isn't too large and our cottage was only a couple of minutes’ drive from the main reception, past the centrally located restaurant, swimming pool and games room. We were staying in a 3 bedroom Croft cottage, complete with 6ft beds and 3 bathrooms. Entry to the cottage was around the back, past a little secluded patio area, and into a hallway with large storage cupboard, perfect for our many pairs of boots and shoes.”

On the matter of the bedrooms she added: “Two of the bedrooms were downstairs, a double with 6ft bed and en suite shower room, and a twin bedded room with a family bathroom next door.

Upstairs there was a large master suite with 6ft bed and shower room, with a large dressing table overlooking the valley, and plenty of storage in wardrobes and drawers.”

Finally Helen went on to describe the rest of the cottage accommodation: “The cottage then opened out into a large open plan kitchen / dining / living area, with fully fitted modern kitchen, dining table with 6 chairs, and two sofas in the living area complete with flat screen TV and DVD player.”
