Goonhilly to open new space age visitors' centre

Good news for budding star-gazers and keen astronomers who want to discover  more about satellites among the stars up in space while staying in Cornwall cottages . The visitors’ centre at Goonhilly Earth Station is preparing to open its doors once again now that the site is safe for the future.

The Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd (GES) bought the site on which it stands on a 999-year lease, as a landmark deal was completed with BT that will see the station rather excitingly working with the UK Space Agency.

Goonhilly is in for some fantastic opportunities as it will now be at the centre of commercial satellites, space science and deep space communications projects. Part of these new projects and its proposed plans will be to reopen a visitors' centre at the site to allow members of the public to be part of the interest and enjoyment it will bring.

In the part visitors have been allowed on the site back when it was functioned as one of the largest satellite earth stations in the entire world before BT ended operations eight years ago, in 2006.
