Have you ever been to stay in pet friendly accommodation in Cornwall and seen the Cornish landmark (pictured left) while enjoying a walk with your pet? Well famous household name and Television presenter Phillip Schofield has jumped in to lend a hand in the effort to save Newquay's iconic Huer's Hut after donating £8,000 to an online funding appeal.

The local campaign set up to save the grade II listed landmark was launched under the Crowdfund Cornwall banner, with the intention of raising the required £10,000 in order to cover the cost of repair work, but the campaign failed in its attempts to reach target.

Unfortunately after the deadline had passed only 20% of the full amount needed had been donated, however the project was launched again last Friday this time £10,385 had been pledged.

When speaking to local newspaper, The Cornish Guardian, Mr Schofield said: "We should continue to look at the history of the town. People always complain when things are gone; people only grumble when it's not there, so I thought, 'This is just something else in Newquay we're going to lose'.”

Mr Schofield grew up in Newquay and was a pupil at Treviglas Community College. He said he had retained an ardent interest in Newquay's heritage.

It is believed that the hut began to decay after council workers attempted to repair it with cement as opposed to porous lime mortar, resulting in a chemical reaction with the existing lime, leaving the structure brittle.
