Cornwall Cricket in Truro Match this July

Summer in Cornwall is synonymous with many things – the beach, cream teas, ice creams and tourism.

But one thing people often overlook during summer in the county is sport.

While Cornwall is most famous as a hotbed for rugby, which takes place during the winter, the county is also one where cricket is hugely popular.

There are hundreds of teams across Cornwall and the county side competes in the England and Wales Cricket Board’s minor counties championship.

So why not while away a day of your holiday at our luxury holiday cottage Cornwall by watching the county’s finest cricketers in action?

The first home game of the season for the team starts on July 6, when the team take on Wales at Truro, just a few miles from The Valley.

If the first fixture of the season is anything to go by, there’s likely to be plenty of exciting action.

Cornwall's cricketers staged an incredible fight back last week to defy the odds and open their Minor Counties Championship campaign with a 33-run victory over Berkshire at Henley-on-Thames.

The Cornish side were made to follow on after being bowled out for 211, 177 runs short of Berkshire's first innings total of 388.

Cornwall looked doomed to defeat at that point but their batsmen built a 194 run lead in their second innings, thanks in part to Alex Smeeth’s 140.

That lead proved too much for Berkshire, who were skittled for 161 on a wearing wicket.

So for more of the same action why not head to Truro Cricket Club on  July 6, 7 and 8?
