WORLD BELLYBOARDING CHAMPIONSHIPS COME TO CORNWALL
8 September 2014
The World Bellyboarding Championships have taken place in Cornwall this past weekend.
St Agnes played host to the event over the weekend, as hundreds of competitors took to the water to compete for the honour of being named the world’s best bellyboarder.
The event isn’t one to be confused with the Association of Professional Surfers world tour though, since the event places the emphasis on fun rather than performance.
Visitors to luxury holiday cottage in Cornwall will have seen the rather unprofessional sight of bellyboarders (not the more serious bodyboarders) take to the water in a range of weird outfits, since wetsuits are banned in this competition.
With many competitors wearing vintage swimwear organisers said the event was an expression of eccentricity.
