Don’t miss Truro’s Christmas Farmers’ Market on your winter break in Cornwall

November 30th, 2016

If you’re lucky enough to be going on a Cornwall Christmas break this winter, then Truro’s Christmas Farmers’ Market is not to be missed!

The market will be in session during late night shopping in Truro every Wednesday in the run up to Christmas, allowing regional producers to showcase their talents. It aims to highlight the benefits of shopping locally and to actively encourage regionally-sourced produce this festive season.

Nigel Ekins, Chairman of the Truro Farmers’ Markets said: “There is always a magical atmosphere for the Christmas markets here on Lemon Quay. Visitors can meet the producers and sample their wares whilst enjoying the city’s Christmas lights and some festive entertainment. It’s a proper family Christmas shopping experience – you don’t get quite the same feeling from browsing the internet at home!”

The market claims to be at the grass roots of Cornwall’s culinary scene and a warm welcome from traders is guaranteed. The renowned green and white striped stalls have graced the city centre since 1999 and become somewhat of a cherished and familiar sight for the locals.

Skip the supermarket queues and stock up your fridge this Christmas at the market. A range of seasonal fruit and vegetables, artisan cheeses, Cornish seafood and locally-reared meats create a particularly tasty spread for over the festive period.

Some of the most celebrated names on the food and drink scene in Cornwall including The Cornish Duck Company, Primrose Herd, Cornish Mill & Bakehouse, Kernow, Sashimi, Meadowside Nursery and The Cornish Smokehouse will be present at the markets. An eclectic mix of preserves, sea salt, chocolate, tea and coffee are also sold by the likes of Heather Bell Honey, Truro Organic Producers, The Cornish Olive Stall, Nancarrow Farm and Kelnan Plants to name just a few. This contributes to the festive atmosphere and overall ambience of colour, flavour and Christmas spirit.

Hungry shoppers rejoice, for the market is host to a variety of street food vendors to stop those stomachs from growling. Take a break shopping and indulge yourself with the likes of Kernow Churros, Ruby June’s Indian Kitchen, @Home – World Street Food and Cornish Venison Co.

A number of brewers, wine-makers and distillers infamous in Cornwall are also well-represented at the market. For those who fancy a slightly stronger tipple to warm up, be sure to check out Padstow Brewing Company, Black Flag Brewery, Bosue Vineyard, Elemental Cornish Gin and Spirits of Cornwall for that extra kick. Kill two birds with one stone and check out the bottles available to buy for friends and family while you’re there – ideal for hampers or as a stand-alone gift.

Stalls also sell an array of goods from local traders, including handmade souvenirs that make the perfect unique gift for someone special. Of particular note in the field of arts and crafts is the Rustic Roundwood Furniture, hosting an array of hand-crafted wooden home and garden accessories.

The market will take place on Lemon Quay, Truro every Wednesday 9am – 9pm, every Saturday as well as the following dates: December: 10, 11, 13, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22 and 24.
