Over the years, the National Trust has built a selection of the finest gardens and country houses across Cornwall, many of which are not far from our child friendly Cornish cottages. They make for the perfect place to have a summer adventure with the whole family.
Take a look below at some of the lovely Nation Trust locations you can visit while on your holiday.
Lanydrock
A trip to Lanydrock could be in order, especially if you are looking to enjoy a bike ride. A number of trails, graded on difficulty can be tried out. The various trails are around 1 mile in length and can be enjoyed at any pace. If you didn’t bring a bike with you, there are cycle hires, as well as other amenities at the estate like a cafe, adventure playground and toilets so you can easily plan a whole day of fun for you and the kids.
Godolphin Estate
Head to Godolphin Estate over the next few weeks for a variety of events – and take off your shoes! It’s Barefoot Month at Godolphin and the whole family can join in the fun. There is barefoot art, walks along barefoot trail, and even a barefoot hike up Godolphin Hill. The events are free, though normal admission charges do apply for the venue. Up until the end of August you can enjoy taking off your hot shoes and running barefoot on the grass. The times are from 10am to 5pm each day.
West Cornwall
Around west Cornwall, many National Trust places are full of sporting activities. You can pick up a challenge card at any of the places and collect stamps for all the different sport challenges you try out. At Penrose there is archery, cycling and hobby horse show jumping every Monday. Each week at Trerice there are a number of sports to try like archery, badminton, sports crafts and a garden full of different sports. And if you head to Trelissick there are sports like tennis, shot put, discus and javelin for the kids to enjoy.
Coastal walks
Cornwall is a beautiful place to walk through, whether its parkland, woodland, along rivers or around the wonderful coast line. Each step you are rewarded with spectacular views. Try the cliffs around Boscastle and the Valency Valley or why not a woodland walk near Lansallos to discover secluded beaches. If you prefer a circular walk go to Nare and travel through a wonderful piece of historical Cornwall, from Iron Age earthwork, a World War Two bunker and mining locations.
Cornwall surfing beaches
If you are wanting to spend a day at one of the many stunning Cornwall beaches near our child friendly Cornish cottages and go for a surf, there are simply miles of places to choose from. The National Trust look after some of these too. One of our favourites is Sandymouth, a popular sandy and pebbly beach it is great for surfing and rock pooling, perfect for those who aren’t looking to hit the waves.
