Royal Cornwall Show a huge success

The Royal Cornwall Show took place over the weekend and was a huge success.

The show, which is held a 45 minute drive from our 5 star cottages Cornwall in Wadebridge, saw thousands of visitors.

Glorious sunshine and warm temperatures, which defied the forecast hail and thundery showers, helped boost numbers to a similar level, and possibly higher, than has been seen in previous years.

Show secretary Christopher Riddle said the whole show had been brilliant and that everyone had a “wonderful time”.

“The forecast was a little iffy at times,” he said, “but we’ve been very lucky and it seems to have been a really good show for lots of people. Livestock entries were good before we started which was encouraging and the trade stands seem to be that more buoyant than they were.”

Christopher said the first day had been ‘huge’ while Friday was a little quieter before business picked up again over the weekend.

Visitors were able to watch livestock showing competitions and see first-hand some impressive beasts, while there were also hundreds of trade stands to browse.

One of the busiest parts of the show was the food and drink tent, where Cornish company St Ives Cider did a roaring trade.

The company, which attended the show for the first time, sold barrels and barrels of cider and claimed second place in the best new exhibitor competition.

Owner David Berwick said he was “over the moon” with the result.

To find out why St Ives Cider won the prize why not pick up a bottle of the delicious cider when you visit The Valley on your holiday in Cornwall.
