One of the stars of the Cornwall based television programme Doc Martin has revealed he loved coming to Duchy so much when filming, he and his family relocated here!

Joe Absolom who plays Al in the TV show, which has returned to our screens for a seventh series, also starred in Eastenders for a number of years, and has made cameo appearances in television shows such as Casualty, The Bill and New Tricks.

Every two years, Joe has been heading to Cornwall to film, alongside the likes of Martin Clunes. Filming usually takes four months, so Joe and his family live the Cornish life for four months every two years.

He recently said in an interview how his children had loved visiting the region, so they took the plunge and moved from London to the South West!

Doc Martin always draws large crowds during filming, leading the actors to describe the experience as almost like taking part in live theatre.

When asked about his filming experience, Clunes stated “huge numbers of people turn up to watch us. I have never felt self-conscious filming out there in the way that I do in other places. For some reason down there it doesn’t bother me.”

With filming taking place a short distance from our luxury holiday cottages, Cornwall is showcased in a beautiful way, with the scenic views of countryside and shots of the coast sprinkled throughout the episodes. Why not visit us here in Cornwall for yourself and see why the actors love it so much?
