5 Food Vans to Find in Cornwall

August 14th, 2020

With hundreds of beaches, small towns and gorgeous countryside to explore in Cornwall, plenty of surprises await in for you when visiting the area. One such surprise is the potential to discover one of Cornwall’s delightful food vans – dishing out incredible cuisine from a roadside spot.

Some of these food vans take up residence in the same spot each day, whereas others you’ll have to track down yourself – either by luck or through checking their social media pages!

* At the moment, food trucks can also provide an excellent way of sampling tasty treats without worrying too much about having to go into a restaurant or café. You can enjoy the food outside overlooking the beach, or take it back to your Truro holiday cottage to enjoy!

While there are a number of food trucks located throughout Cornwall, today we are sharing some of our favourites for you to find!

KERN of Kernow

Driving a blue 70s van (which they have called Beyonce) around Cornwall, twins Kris and Maren are all about their cake and coffee, which they serve by the beach and at events throughout Cornwall!

Taking inspiration from their childhood in Germany, their speciality is bundt cake, which are gorgeously decorated with colourful icing, flowers and fruit.

Check their Instagram for information on where they are currently setting up shop!

Hungry Horsebox

The Hungry Horsebox takes up permanent residence at Gwithian Beach, near St Ives. This beachside truck provides fresh food using locally sourced Cornish ingredients.

After a lovely walk on the beach or a splash in the sea, head up to the Hungry Horsebox for a refreshing coffee, cake or an incredible Cornish cream tea!

When the sun sets, the Hungry Horsebox becomes the perfect cookout spot, offering frequent feast nights, where you can enjoy a delicious meal by the sea. Check out their social media pages for updates on when these events will take place!

El Huichol

Bringing the tastes of Mexico to the Cornish seaside, El Huichol is the must-stop spot for tacos, quesadillas and tostadas.

Tacos are definitely at the heart of the van though, with a range of flavours and fillings available, including pulled pork, tempura fish and black beans, to name a few.

Their current hang-out is Newquay Harbour, but check out their Instagram to see when and where they are serving food!

Donut Dollies

Working out of a vintage-themed wagon dubbed Dolly, the Donut Dollies can be spotted in 1940s polka-dots dishing out the very best treats.

Here you’ll find classic handmade donuts, with the option to add some delicious sauces, such as caramel, cream, jam and melted chocolate. The Donut Dollies also offer vegan dough bites, as well as shakes and hot chocolates!

A family-run business, the Donut Dollies have been operating for 12 years and regularly pitch up at festivals and events, so you may even find them outside of Cornwall too!

Flour Power Pizza Parlour

With a van as vibrant as the name may suggest, the Flour Power Pizza Parlour serves up artisanal pizza using fresh Cornish ingredients. Having trained to be professional pizzaiolos in Florence, owners Rebecca and Simon now dish out incredible slices to pizza lovers in Cornwall.

They pitch up in different spots throughout the week, including Gwithian Farm, Portreath Arms, Trevelgan Touring Park and the Porthtowan Eco Collective Shop. Check out their social media to discover where they are!

Will you be looking out for any of these food vans when visiting Cornwall? There are plenty of other scrumptious spots to find as you explore the county too, so what will you discover?!
