Four great benefits of the beach

April 08th, 2015

Thanks to being located fifteen minutes from both the North and the South coast of Cornwall, here at the Valley, we are lucky to be so close to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Previously conducted research has found that visiting a beach whilst on holiday has a greater impact on an individual’s emotional wellbeing than any other form of holiday, but why is this?

Fresh produce

Our menu at the Café Azur is inspired by the abundance of fresh produce available nearby. This is from both local farms, and from nearby fishing ports, which gives a great variety of fish and seafood.

These foods are naturally low in fat, and contain many aspects such as antioxidants, and omega-3, which is great for the heart. You can have a look at our sample menu here, and take a look at what fresh produce you can be sampling when staying in one of our luxury holiday cottages Cornwall.

Spending time in the sun

As long as you are wearing the correct protection from the sun, in the form of sunscreen, sun exposure can be good for you! Vitamin D found in the UV rays can be beneficial to us, as it helps to promote strong bones. Your hair and fingernails will grow faster and stronger than before, and can also help your skin to look healthier as well. Just make sure to respect the sun and take care not to suffer from overexposure.

Coastal air

Coastal air is great for the body, as the increased levels of oxygen are great for your skin, muscles and organs, and can help to give a feeling of rejuvenation. A survey found that people believe the sight of the sea and hearing the waves break on the shore is one of the most relaxing experiences, which can help you to relax whilst you are on holiday.

Spending time in the sea

Swimming is a great form of exercise, and can be done here in either our indoor or outdoor pool. However, for the more adventurous of you, a dip in the ocean might be favoured. Being a non-weight bearing exercise means that it won’t put too much of a strain on your body.

Sea water can also be very beneficial to your health. For example, the levels of silicon in the sea can help to tone the skin, and leave it looking and feeling younger. The iodine in the water can also help your hair to grow stronger, as well as giving it an added shine.
