Stuck for something to do this New Year’s? Treat yourself to a Truro holiday cottage for a fantastic break with family and friends, welcoming in the new year in style!
Cornwall is a fantastic location, with lots to do throughout the year, and New Year’s Eve is no different. Below, we take a look at some of the best events happening in towns and cities near our holiday cottages.
New Year’s in Truro
Celebrate the start of the New Year in Cornwall’s capital city!
Fancy dress is well-received across Cornwall for New Year’s celebrations, and Truro is no different. However, if your idea of dressing up is more black tie than animal costume, head to the Cathedral for the lavish Masquerade Ball. Truro’s biggest party features live music, acrobats, a cocktail bar and, of course, the cathedral bells ringing at midnight.
As Cornwall’s only city, Truro is the place to go for a wide range of pubs, clubs and bars, as well as an assortment of restaurants to enjoy while welcoming in the new year.
New Year’s in St Ives
For New Year’s, St Ives comes alive with fantastic celebrations and events being held across the town. The streets are completely closed for traffic around the harbour, and when the tides are right, celebrators spill onto the beach for a unique beach party into the early hours.
Fancy dress is highly recommended, and the streets are invaded with superheroes, morph suits and an array of other weird and wonderful costumes.
As the bells ring to mark the start of the new year, fireworks will commence, providing a beautiful display over the beaches and town. If you’re after a classic New Year’s street party, there’s not much better than St Ives.

New Year’s in Falmouth
Similar to St Ives, Falmouth’s streets are shut down for a big fancy dress party on New Year’s Eve so eveyone can enjoy live music and plenty of local cheer.
As one of Cornwall’s most creative towns (thanks to its thriving art school), Falmouth is full of small parties and events going on around New Year’s Eve. If you want to spend the night exploring and bar hopping, this could be the perfect destination for you.
New Year’s in Looe
The people of Cornwall love a good carnival, and this is highlighted on New Year’s Eve in Looe. Fancy dress is practically mandatory, so get your thinking caps on for a hilarious theme for you all to wear as you hit the streets.
Looe distinguishes itself by having not one, but two firework displays on the night. One takes place at the earlier time of 6PM, perfect for families with little ones who may already be snoozing by the time midnight comes around, while the second is to ring in the New Year as the clock strikes 12!
New Year’s in Newquay
Newquay has a reputation as the party capital of Cornwall, and it certainly lives up to expectations on New Year’s.
A big selling point of New Year’s in Newquay is the breathtaking 30-minute firework display, starting at midnight and illuminating the seaside town like never before. Whether you want to get out there and party with the best of them or enjoy a more laid-back walk by the coast with loved ones, Newquay is a great place to be for NYE.
If you fancy a quiet night in with your nearest and dearest this year, what better way to spend some quality time together than in one of our fantastic holiday cottages?
