How to Spend New Year’s in Cornwall
December 05th, 2018
Stuck for something to do this New Year’s? Treat yourself to a five-star cottage in Cornwall for a fantastic holiday with family and friends, welcoming in the new year in style! Cornwall is a fantastic location, with lots to do throughout the year, and New Year’s Eve is no different. Below we take a look at some of the best events happening in towns and cities near our holiday cottages:
Truro
Celebrate the start of the New Year in the city, with an impressive firework’s display kicking off in Lemon Quay at midnight. Get into the fun spirit of the evening by turning up in fancy dress, which is well received at Cornish NYE celebrations. As the only city in Cornwall, Truro is the place to go for a wide range of pubs, clubs and bars, as well as an assortment of restaurants to head to and welcome in the new year.
St Ives
At New Year, St Ives comes alive with fantastic celebrations and events being held across the town. The streets are completely closed for traffic around the harbour and when the tides are right, celebrators spill onto the beach for a unique beach party into the early hours. Fancy dress is highly recommended and the streets are invaded with superheroes, morph suits and an array of other weird and wonderful costumes. As the bells ring to mark the start of the new year, fireworks will commence, providing a beautiful display over the beaches and town. Festivities begin at around 8pm and go on through the night – fantastic festivities for all the family to enjoy!
Falmouth
A great way to see in the new year in style is at Rick Stein’s famous fish restaurant where you can welcome in the new year with friends and family over a delicious meal made from locally sourced ingredients. Sample some of the freshest seafood around and enjoy some of Rick’s favourite recipes. If fish isn’t for you, check out any of Falmouth’s fantastic clubs, pubs and bars that will put on a great event in true Cornish style to celebrate the start of the year.
Looe
The people of Cornwall love a good carnival, and this is highlighted at New Year. Fancy dress is practically mandatory, so get your thinking caps on for a hilarious, yet original theme for you all to wear as you hit the streets of Looe. The town distinguishes itself, by having not one, but two firework displays on the night. One takes place at the earlier time of 6pm, perfect for families with little ones who may already be snoozing by the time midnight comes around, while the second is to ring in the new year as the clock strikes 12!
Newquay
Newquay has established somewhat of a reputation as the party capital of Cornwall and certainly lives up to expectations on NYE. The big selling point to renting a holiday cottage near Newquay is the breath-taking 30-minute firework display, starting at midnight and illuminating the seaside town allowing you to see it like never before. Whether you want to get out there and party with the rest of them, wander along the beach with the family or tuck up at home with a hot chocolate, the fireworks can be seen from all around and should not be missed! If you’re feeling brave you can even take a dip in the sea on New Year’s Day with the rest of the foolhardy Cornish folk who give it a go!
If you fancy a quiet night in with your nearest and dearest this year, what better way to spend some quality time together than in one of our fantastic holiday cottages. After a stressful year, there’s no better time to treat yourselves and indulge in our luxurious accommodation, some of which even have hot tubs! It doesn’t get more exclusive than that for a New Year’s gathering with friends and family!
