Padstow named a holiday hot spot for 2016

January 05th, 2016

Padstow has made it on to a list of holiday destinations that are predicted to be the most popular for 2016 throughout the UK. It seems holiday makers are heading out from the suburban areas and cities and escaping to the countryside to enjoy the UK’s wonderful natural attractions.

Padstow has something for everyone, young and old and is nestled on the Atlantic coast on the west bank of the River Camel. Its location bodes well for the thrill seekers, with a wide variety of beaches nearby with activities such as coasteering, kayaking, surfing and other water sports.

Also for the sporty ones among us is the Camel Trail, one of the most popular recreational routes in the country, the Camel Trail runs from Padstow to Wenford Bridge, via Wadebridge and Bodmin. The trail passes through the wooded countryside of the upper Camel Valley and alongside the picturesque Camel Estuary.

If you love the beach but want to stay clear of the more extreme sports we suggest a trip to Mother Iveys Bay, where its white sand and crystal clear waters remind you more of Sicily than Cornwall. It’s a great place to take the children as it faces a different direction to surrounding beaches, meaning the seas are much calmer here. You just may have to share your stretch of sand with a few seals, who regularly turn up at the beach to bask in the sunshine.

Padstow is known for its exceptional sea food and is home to wide range of fantastic restaurants which take advantage of the picturesque fishing harbour right on its doorstep. You can sit yourself down on the pier and enjoy a fine ale whilst the fisherman unload the days catch right in front of you and walk it past you through the restaurant doors before being turned into a delicious dish.

If you want to escape the restaurants and take a more rustic approach there are a variety of fishing trips that leave the harbour daily, you can a wide selection of fish such as mackerel, sea bass, plaice and turbot before arriving back on shore to grill over the fire as the sun sets.

Why not take advantage the wide range of short breaks in Cornwall with The Valley and come and enjoy all that Padstow has to offer for yourself.
