RNLI lifeguards to patrol for longer on Cornish beaches
August 17th, 2016
The RNLI lifeguards are to patrol Cornish beaches for extended hours this summer, up until September 4. There will be lifeguard cover up to 7pm on 40 beaches, many of which are close to our luxury Cornwall cottages.
As more people are enjoying the pleasures of the beach later into the evenings this hot summer, RNLI lifeguards will be on hand from 10am to 7pm every day. They are there to provide assistance and safety to the beachgoers.
Steve Instance, Senior RNLI Lifeguard Manager, said: “We are coming into the busiest period of the year on the beaches and our lifeguards will be on hand every day throughout the summer to provide information and safety advice to visitors.
“Cornwall’s beaches are extremely busy in the summer with people enjoying the water later and making the most of the light evenings. As a result, this year we have decided to extend our lifeguard patrol hours on selected beaches until 7pm, allowing people to enjoy the water safely, knowing the lifeguards will be keeping watch over them for an extra hour.”
He also urged people to be careful in the water at all times, even with a lifeguard on watch. Being respectful of the power of the water is important, and it is best to check if you are heading to a beach with younger children that it is patrolled by a lifeguard, for extra precaution.
