Set sail for The Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival 12th-14th June
April 14th, 2015
The 2015 Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival will be taking place over the weekend of 12th to 14th June, and is one of the biggest maritime music festivals in Europe. Only a few miles from The Valley’s luxury self catering accommodation, the bustling port of Falmouth will play host to hundreds of hours of free to attend shanty performances taking places at various locations throughout the town, from pubs and bars to historic courtyards and quays. Over the weekend shanty performances will be scheduled at venues including Events Square, Custom House Quay, The Moor and Princess Pavilion. The huge variety of acts taking part is reflected in the fifty-three groups already booked to perform at 21 different venues.
Alongside the variety of free performances, there will also be a special one-off Gala Concert on Saturday 13th June at Princess Pavilion featuring four of the festival’s headline acts; Les souilles de fond de cale, Kimbers Men, The Oggymen, and Poles Apart. This will be a ticketed concert (£10 each) but all proceeds from this and the other fundraising events during the festival will go to the RNLI. Last year saw crowds of over 25,000 visitors to The Falmouth Sea Shanty festival and over £10,000 was raised for the RNLI.
Sponsors of this year’s Sea Shanty Festival include Skinners Brewery and Seasalt clothing, with the colourful character of Betty Stoggs herself making plenty of appearances throughout the weekend, including the Beat Betty Challenge which proved very popular last year.
For those planning to attend this year’s Sea Shanty Festival for a long weekend break in Cornwall then The Valley offers a great choice of two and three bedroom accommodation with three night breaks in June starting at just £545 for up to four people. With the centre of Falmouth just 15 minutes away by car, bus or train The Valley provides the perfect balance of enjoying the sights and sounds of the festival and then escaping the crowds to the peace and tranquillity of this lovely rural location.
