Top 5 recommended beach activities
July 07th, 2015
Summer is finally here, the temperatures have risen, the weather is great and so it’s now time to plan what to do when you stay at your summer holiday cottage in Cornwall.
A summer holiday to Cornwall cannot be complete without a few days spent exploring different beaches. Here are our top 5 recommended activities to keep you entertained on the beach this summer.
- Water sports:
Surfing, upright paddle boarding and kayaking are just a few for you to try.The North coast beach of Perranporth is located only a 20 minute drive from The Valley’ s holiday cottages and the south coast beach at Falmouth only a 15 minute drive which means you have an easy choice; large waves or calm flat waters! If you aren’t a pro at surfing yet, The Valley have teamed up with King Surf where Pete and his team will have you standing in no time.
- Sandcastle building:
An easy and free activity to do whilst on the beach. Pick a theme and get building! Parents, can you build a better sand castle than your children?
- Rock pooling:
A brilliant activity to do when the tide is out. How many creatures, fish, crabs etc can you find? At first glimpse a pool may look empty but if you disturb the water and then wait for it to settle you are sure to see something moving! The Cornwall Wildlife Trust often arrange rock pool safaris too. Castle Beach in Falmouth is our favourite spot for rock pooling.
- BBQ’s / picnics:
Find a secluded beach and relax for the day with just your picnic to keep you going. Cornwall has many hidden beaches which just require a bit of extra walking to reach them, and there will unlikely be any café’s or facilities. I’m afraid we can’t share our hidden beaches with you as we quite enjoy sitting on them by ourselves!
BBQ’s are a perfect way to finish off your day. Enjoy a tasty hot dog or burger whilst watching the sun set over the crashing north coast waves.
- Coastline rambling:
The best way, we think, to enjoy Cornwall’s beaches is to take a stroll along the water’s edge enjoying a delicious Cornish ice cream whilst watching the world go by.
