With preparations for Christmas festivities well under way, households all over the country are looking forward to relaxing holidays where they can indulge in great food, drinks and spend some quality time together. Some families might even be looking forward to packing up, and heading south, for a fantastic, festive celebration, Cornish style! Although time is ticking on, slightly faster than the less organised amongst us might like, there is still time to book one of our holiday cottages in Cornwall for New Year!
A night that is often forgotten about due to the excitement of Christmas, there’s no better way to start 2020 than with a staycation in Cornwall. Spend it with your nearest and dearest in a place that holds many memories for you all or explore a completely new location and discover all its quirks, traditions and hidden gems together! Whether you’re all booked up and ready to go, or still in search of some New Year’s destination inspiration, we’ve made a list of just some of what you could get up to in Cornwall on December 31st!
Returning to this beautiful corner of Cornwall to see out the end of 2019, Falmouth town is hosting a New Year’s Eve fireworks display, sponsored by the Royal Duchy Hotel and Brend Hotels, and hosted by Pendennis Castle. The castle itself will be used as a launch area only. Still, there are various places you can view the display from along the seafront as the clock strikes 12. Wherever you find yourself celebrating earlier in the evening, head down to the waterfront for front row seats of what’s sure to be a fantastic display!
Alternatively, the Greenbank Hotel is seeing the new year in style with an array of events over the New Year period. The house party guarantees a rustic fine dining experience for all, with a menu that has been specifically crafted to celebrate Cornwall’s culinary creations. The experience includes a drinks reception, delicious canapes and an indulgent cheese table. The pub party, on the other hand, is a little less formal, and takes place in a proper traditional pub on the waterfront, giving you fabulous seats for the firework display at midnight.
You can also spend December 31st at the Falmouth Hotel, with a black-tie gala evening of celebrations, commencing with a drinks and canapes reception at 7 pm, followed by a five-course gala dinner at the Castle Beach Restaurant. Entertainment will be provided throughout the evening until the clock strikes midnight, where you and our fellow guests are invited to gather together with a glass of champagne to watch the spectacular fireworks over the beach.
If spending a night out on the town just isn’t for you this year, perhaps you have young children or just need some time to relax and recuperate, a night at one of our luxurious cottages might be just the answer. You can quickly make your cottage a home away from home and opt for something easy to cook for dinner so that you can spend more time with the people that matter. Some may even want to consider a takeaway, where someone else can take on all the hard work while you enjoy a well-deserved break. If you’re lucky enough to be staying in one of our holiday cottages with a hot tub, there’s no better way to welcome in the new year than a soak in the water with a glass of bubbly. A truly romantic way to start the year as you mean to go on; with someone you love!
Whatever you decide to do this New Year’s in Cornwall, we’re sure it’ll be an unforgettable holiday for all. Any sore heads on New Year’s Day will soon be cured by a bracing walk along the beach or indulging in any fine Cornish cuisine that may take your fancy. Nearby towns of Redruth, Truro and Newquay are also hosting fantastic events this New Year’s and can easily be reached from our holiday cottages, so don’t hesitate to look further afield if none of the above takes your fancy.
