Vote now for Falmouth to be crowned the top coastal town in the UK

October 18th, 2016

The wonderful town of Falmouth has been shortlisted as one of the top coastal towns in the UK by the annual Great British High Street competition, but it needs help from the public, who can vote for it to win. You can vote now and enjoy the great town when on your Falmouth holidays.

Falmouth was chosen for the coastal category alongside Prestatyn in Wales and Seaview Street in Cleethorpes, in the third annual competition to find the best high streets in the UK.

The high street competition is a government-led initiative that celebrates the work that revives, diversifies and adapts the town centres across the UK. Focussing on innovative festivals, business improvement districts (BID), community groups and proactive teams, it is a great way to congratulate the towns, and the people involved for their hard work.

Falmouth was chosen from 900 other entries, and the towns will be inspected by judges from retail, property and business industries. However, it is the public vote which is key for Falmouth claiming the top spot.

Richard Wilcox, BID manager for Falmouth, said: “We’re delighted that our application has made it to the final three. We love Falmouth and our vibrant coastal community, and so applied to showcase the superb amount of proactive, innovative work going on in the town.”

If Falmouth does win, it receives a share of £100,000 and the town team receives expert training from Google and Twitter to boost its social media presence.

High Streets Minister Andrew Percy said: “Our high streets are the life and soul of towns, villages, and cities across the country and the record number of competition entries this year is proof of their continued importance to local life.”

Voting is now open and you can enter here. You can enter as many times as many times as you want, though only once every 24 hours.
