Cornwall enjoyed a long peak tourism season as visitor numbers continued to soar throughout September and October. Tourism chiefs cited the mild weather and international issues as well as Cornwall’s stunning beauty as the big draws for the summer period.
Many businesses across Cornwall continue to see high visitor numbers, compared to previous years when visitor numbers would have dwindled by the beginning of October.
Visit Cornwall chief executive Malcolm Bell said though the final figures hadn’t been collected the feedback about the longer tourism season had been very positive, commenting: “I think this has been a very busy September and October. It is certainly above average and my gut feeling is that it has probably been one of the best on record.
“Anecdotally, I’m hearing that is was very busy across the county right up to the half-term holidays. I’ve been to some places where it has been difficult to find parking in mid-October, which is unheard of!”
Mr Bell also said there has been an increase in visitors travelling from America and Australia, possibly driven by the Poldark effect.
