The prestigious Trencherman’s Awards were announced last week at a ceremony in Devon. Food and drink experts from the South West region were in attendance hoping to win awards, and celebrating the passion and creativity of the area’s best eateries.
Over 10,000 people voted for their favourite places and shows the extent of the knowledge Trencherman’s Guide readers have of the top dining experiences throughout the South West in 2016 and they love to share their passion.
Many fantastic restaurants in Cornwall won top prizes, and the whole event was an exciting experience, with Best Chef winner Stephane Delourme or The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow saying, “I am feeling so happy and I can’t believe that all these people voted for me. It’s a great achievement after all these years of hard work at The Seafood Restaurant.”
Another happy winner was head chef Jude Kereama from Kota in Porthleven, who won for Creativity and Innovation. Jude is known for his Asia-New Zealand twist on classic Cornish ingredients, said: “I am really happy and proud. I don’t know who voted for me because I didn’t even vote for myself. I am really amazed!”
Best restaurant was also won by a Cornwall establishment, Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Port Isaac. Head chef Chris Simpson said after winning, 2I am delighted to get this award on behalf of Nathan, the front of house team and the kitchen team, who have worked incredibly hard.
“The restaurant has been open for the past two years now so it is really great to be here and to have achieved this award in that time.”
The Trencherman’s Guide celebrates exquisite cooking and top dining services, awarding restaurants, pubs and other eateries which meet their strict scoring criteria. 2017 will see 25 years of the guide which celebrates the West Countries most outstanding restaurants and creative cooking minds.
