Cornwall is number one for British “Staycations”

April 25th, 2015

Staycations are on the rise, with Cornwall pinching the top spot from under the nose of the capital, London. Thanks to the hottest April on record, the UK is set to enjoy a tourism boost this year, as 83 per cent of Britons prefer to take a holiday at home, according to a survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of VoucherCodes.co.uk.

Cornwall has topped the poll for the fifth year running, as one in five Britons are said to be opting for the beautiful countryside and stunning beaches of the South West as their getaway of choice. Cornwall has seen a 16 per cent rise in tourists from the UK since 2010, and looks set to receive a 14 per cent increase of holidaymakers this year than in 2014.

Cities such as Edinburgh and Cardiff made the top ten, but there was no place for our local neighbours Devon in this year’s results! The full breakdown of the top can be seen below:

1. Cornwall

2. London.

3. Lake District.

4. Yorkshire Dales.

5. Bournemouth.

6. Isle of Wight.

7. Edinburgh

8. New Forest.

9. Brighton.

10. Cardiff.

One of the main reasons for the increase in people opting to not travel abroad for their holiday is the desire to see more of the UK, with 44 per cent of people surveyed stating that as their reason.

Home to an array of beauty spots and cultural experiences, it is not hard to see why Cornwall topped the poll yet again!
