Cornwall tops ‘staycation’ destinations for 2016
April 26th, 2016
The beautiful county of Cornwall has topped an annual holiday report of the most popular locations for a ‘staycation’ in the UK. Book your stay at our luxury holiday accommodation in Cornwall.
According to the report, over half (58%) of Britons will holiday to the coast this summer, making 2016 the biggest year for a jaunt to the seaside in five years, since the reports from Travelodge Holidays Index started. Only 33% of people in 2011 said they would holiday at the coast.
The report also showed that Britons will be spending more money on their UK holidays, which will give the UK economy and tourist sector a welcome boost of almost £20 billion.
Cornwall came out top for ‘staycation’ destinations, beating out London, Devon, the Lake District and Blackpool.
One of the reasons for the increase in holiday makers staying in UK borders could be due to what is perceived as a higher level of threat when holidaying abroad. Also, residents who responded to the report cited a sense of patriotism and 77% said the UK was a perfect holiday destination.
We couldn’t agree more! There are many things to attract people to Cornwall, from hidden beaches, loads of water sports, coastal walks with breath-taking views, historic castles, spectacular gardens and more to discover.
