Cornwall victorious at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards

February 16th, 2015

Cornwall achieved a superb result at last week’s South West Tourism Excellence Awards, coming out on top in over half of the awards’ 20 categories.

The Falmouth Tall Ships Regatta, which took place last summer and attracted 197,000 over 4 days, took one of the most anticipated awards, the Tourism Event of the Year. Other recipients of awards included Mobius Adventure, who won Best Tourism Activity, Sport and Experience and Launceston Tourist Information Centre.

As well as taking the top spot in the field of tourism, the awards also demonstrated Cornwall’s excellent reputation on the food scene. Restaurant Nathan Outlaw scooped the gold award for the highly competitive Taste of the South West Award, while the Pandora Inn won Tourism Pub of the Year.

The awards were presented at a black-tie ceremony at Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier, presented by newsreader of Westcountry Tonight Kylie Pentelow, with TV adventurer Monty Halls delivering the opening address.

Each candidate was judged through a vigorous 3 stage process of marking, visits and panel meetings to ensure that the final winners were of the very best quality, and with so many Cornish businesses and organisations taking the top prizes, the news of receiving so many of these awards means that Cornwall is definitely one of the best places to visit!
