Falmouth bass player’s LA dreams come true

December 02nd, 2014

A talented young musician from Cornwall is living his dreams in Los Angeles and performing with some of his heroes and a number of rising stars.

Sam Norman comes from Falmouth, just a few miles from The Valley’s 5 Star Cottages Cornwall, and has spent the last few years playing gigs in venues including the nearby Gylly Beach cafe and Miss Peapods while working as a labourer.

But now he’s performing on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip and preparing to head off on a tour of the whole USA.

The 29-year-old moved to LA when he won a music scholarship to the LA Music Academy last year and he graduated in September. Since graduating Sam’s day job has involved playing with a number of bands and at dozens of famous venues, including the Viper Room – owned by Johnny Depp – and the House of Blues, where Elton John, Guns and Roses and Snoop Dogg, among others, have performed.

Sam has recorded an EP with the same producer who has worked with Sublime and has also recorded tracks with two of the stars of hit TV show Glee.

“Coming out here was a dream,” he said. “Since I’ve been young I’ve fantasised about living in LA, but growing up in Falmouth made it feel like a dream.”
