Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival kicks off today

June 12th, 2015

Now in its twelfth year, the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival will be bringing the town to life with song this weekend, with over 53 sea shanty groups performing across 21 venues.

It is now one of the biggest maritime music festivals in Europe, with this year set to be the biggest in the event’s history, hoping to raise thousands of pounds for the RNLI.  Last year over 25,000 people flocked to the town to enjoy the festivities, with even more expected to descend on the town this weekend.

There are three main stages suitable for larger crowds on Events Square, Custom House Quay and the Moor, with many smaller venues, including a number of town centre pubs, Falmouth Parish Church and the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club among others hosting various smaller sea shanty events. The Princess Pavilion will be hosting one of the major events, the Gala Concert, bringing together four top shanty groups for one night only: Les Souilles de Fond de Cale, Kimbers Men, The Oggymen and Poles Apart.

If you’re thinking of heading down to the festival this weekend, our Cornwall self-catering luxury accommodation is situated nearby waiting for you to enjoy a night’s stay!
