Falmouth welcomes the return of the famous Oyster Festival

October 03rd, 2014

If you are looking for short breaks in Cornwall during October and you’re not sure what you’re going to do while you’re here then we have a fantastic offering for you. The Falmouth Oyster Festival.

Taking place from October 9 – October 12 this great festival celebrates the start of the oyster dredging season, the diversity and quality of Cornish Seafood and, specifically, the last remaining traditional oyster fishery in the entirety of Europe who are still dredging by sail and hand punt.

You get the chance to see an amazing cookery master-class from a celebrity chef who opens the event. This splendid opening is then followed by a four day festival which is full to the rafters with cookery demonstrations by top local chefs, oysters, seafood, wine as well as local ale to sample. Additionally there’s children’s shell painting, entertainment in the form of sea shanties, a town parade, live music, an oyster shucking competition, a Falmouth Working Boat race and marquees simply brimming with Cornish produce.

The festival is easy to find as its all taking place in the town’s event square. Visitors to the festival can savour the ever-growing range of mouth-watering Cornish food and drink, both on site whilst soaking up the festival atmosphere. Alternatively visitors can wait until they get home to sample their seafood and libation delights!
