Reindeer parade kicks off late night shopping in Truro
December 05th, 2014
Late night shopping came to Cornwall last night, when a Reindeer Parade marked the start of late night shopping in Truro.
Parents and children gathered to watch the reindeer parade through Victoria Square in the Cornish capital yesterday as shops in the city stayed open late for the first time this December.
Shops stayed open until 9pm in Lemon Quay and the city’s other shopping streets – while families who watched the parade headed off to buy Christmas gifts.
The parade was organised by Malletts Home Hardware and was led by the Carnon Youth Band, which is based just down the road from the Valley’s Christmas cottages Cornwall in Carnon Downs. The parade featured pantomime characters played by members of local youth drama group Karnon Kidz, including the Snow Queen from the group’s Christmas production.
Truro Business Innovation District leader Neil Scott said the event was a huge success.
“Every year this is a great night,” he said. “It launches late night shopping in Truro in style and is all about bringing audiences of all ages into the city to enjoy the fun and festive atmosphere.”
In addition to the reindeer parade there were also dozens of Santas in Truro, taking part in an annual Santa Fun Run, and market stall holder selling festive goods on lemon Quay.
